Individual Consultations

If you’d like to book an appointment for dietary advice or an eating plan, then the first meeting with me usually takes about an hour. I am happy to have a once-off consultation to provide some education and advice around a specific health concern. If an individualised eating plan is required, a second appointment is made after the initial assessment. The first meeting is about getting to know you and understanding your goals. I will ask about your medical history and take measurements, where required, including a full body composition assessment (to determine lean muscle mass, body fat percentage, protein, mineral and body water content). It is helpful to bring details of your medical history to this meeting, where relevant, including any recent blood test results and details of medication and supplements. If you require new blood tests then I will arrange referral to Path Care.

The second appointment is scheduled a few days later to allow for calculation and planning of your diet. The second meeting is a chance for me to explain your eating plan. This can be arranged remotely, if needed. It is your choice how you would like to proceed from there. Follow up appointments after the first two meetings are encouraged to assess progress, especially where significant lifestyle change is required. Continuous support and education is very helpful when it comes to changing habits and staying motivated. Sometimes we also need to adapt the plan to improve its effectiveness, so a commitment of 8 weekly follow ups is usually a good start. During a follow up we would do body composition measurements, where required, and discuss food records and all your questions. My rates are based on time, so shorter sessions are charged accordingly.

If you would like to bring a child to see me for anything other than a basic nutrition screening or assessment, then for anyone between the ages of 4 and 16 it is important that I have an appointment with the child’s parent(s) or caregiver(s) alone first. This is to determine a suitable approach and I find it makes any future work much more comfortable and successful for everyone.

Body Composition Analysis

You can book for a body composition analysis measurement, which will give you a clear reading of your weight, body water, fat mass, lean muscle mass, protein and bone mineral content, as well as the distribution and balance of muscle and fat throughout your body.

I use a professional bioelectrical impedance analysis device to perform the reading, which takes only a few seconds and is entirely non-invasive. We will discuss the results in detail and you will receive a comprehensive report.

You will need to stand barefoot on the scale and ideally plan your appointment so that you do not eat or drink for about 1 hour before the reading. Recent intensive exercise can also interfere with the accuracy of all the results, so coming rested is best.

I run a cash practice and will send you an invoice after your appointment with me. Although not identical, I align my rates with the Discovery medical aid rates for dietetics services. My invoicing format allows for you to claim back after you have settled your account, however I do not handle any medical aid claims myself and ask that you pay me directly.
