About

I am a registered dietitian and while my interests in nutrition and food are broad, this site is to provide information for anyone looking to work with me in my private practice in Hout Bay. I do once-off consultations if you just have a few questions about nutrition, or I can design a detailed, individualised eating plan for you and then coach you through the process of lifestyle and dietary change.

I can help you to find the balance between what you need from your diet (i.e. what we know works – the science behind your treatment) and what will work for you as an individual. As a professional, it is my responsibility to stay on top of current nutrition science and to continually research the best practice around all the conditions that I handle in practice. When I work with you, the aim is to apply that science in the context of a holistic approach. I will consider your medical history, lifestyle, family situation, food relationship and motivation levels. With all that in mind, we find a solution together that feels practical and sustainable for you. Sometimes we get it right immediately, and sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error, but if you’re ready for change and committed to the process, then I will stick with you until we work it out.

I really believe that a good relationship with food makes us better people. When our bodies are nourished and healthy, we have better energy levels and better moods and we are far more resilient in the face of illness and everyday stress. Healthy people who feel good tend to perform better at anything they choose to do. When you stop worrying about food and your weight, there is so much more mental energy for everything else you want to achieve. I know that nutrition is only one aspect of health, but since most of us eat multiple times a day, it seems a good place to start.

Becoming a registered dietitian felt like the most credible qualification I could get to support my interest in nutrition. It means that I have a clinical background and that I’m qualified to handle the full spectrum of human nutrition, which covers general healthy eating for optimum nutrition at any life stage with adaptations for cultural or other preferences and requirements, as well as any medical conditions related to food. This could range from simple healthy eating advice, to diabetes or cardiovascular disease management, supporting optimum recovery from surgery, handling taste changes or nausea, weight loss or gain, sports nutrition, digestive issues and more. If you are not sure what you need, please contact me. If I am not able to handle your condition, I will tell you immediately and try to refer you to another health professional or dietitian with more depth of experience in that field. I do not charge for appointments where I feel that an immediate referral is required.
