Why choose a dietitian?

A dietitian is a registered health professional – a nutrition expert, practicing under the regulations of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Health professionals are committed to treating patients according to current, evidence-based best practice.

Registered dietitians are obliged to stay up-to-date through continuing education around the science of nutrition and the ethical practice of dietetics, which encompasses not only patient care and the services they offer, but also the way that they engage with the public, including through advertising and social media.

When a dietitian approaches a patient’s care, it is always from the perspective of a scientist, but a dietitian’s skill as a health professional is in their ability to apply the science to an individual situation and to create a sustainable treatment plan for that person.
